Tyre test: results by category

An in-depth look at the scoring charts for our 2024 tyre test

It was a tight battle at the top, with three tyres in contention for the win, and it was close behind them too; the top six were covered by a single percentage point. A slight tweak to the scoring system would have shuffled them so, as we always say, check out the category scores below to find the tyres that best suit your priorities.

Last-placed Falken is within touching distance of the pack, but needs to raise its game in the wet to get on terms, while the seventh-placed Bridgestone delivered somewhat contradictory results, lapping fastest in the wet but scoring poorly in the measured wet tests.

The Pirelli generally prioritises economy at the expense of performance, while the mid-table Hankook and Michelin offer more balanced abilities. If the Continental had been more refined, it would have taken a second win, but instead it was pipped by two outstanding tyres, the highly capable and consistent-handling Goodyear and the refined, economical and very able Vredestein.

Winner: Vredestein Ultrac 5

Third last time out, the Ultrac has added low rolling resistance to its skill set and emerges victorious from an excellent top three, thanks to its blend of wet-weather performance, refinement and new-found economy.
