530bhp Bentley Mulsanne Speed debuts at Paris Motor Show

New Bentley Mulsanne Speed revealed in Paris, with 530bhp and a 190mph top speed

Bentley has revealed the new Mulsanne Speed – a 530bhp, 190mph version of its flagship limo - at a preview event ahead of tomorrow's Paris Motor Show.

The Speed features the 6.75-litre twin-turbo V8 from the standard car, but with new injectors, a new combustion chamber and new spark plugs.

This is combined with updates to the variable valve timing and turbocharger to boost power by 25bhp. Plus, there’s even a 13 per cent improvement in fuel economy to 19.3mpg. Bentley says that translates to an extra 50 miles of range from a full tank of fuel.

With the extra power and a recalibrated eight-speed gearbox, the Mulsanne Speed can sprint from 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds – four-tenths quicker than the standard Mulsanne. That 190mph top speed is a handy 6mph higher, too.

The focus is on involving the driver more than ever, and Bentley has included a new ‘S’ mode in the gearbox. This keeps revs above 2,000rpm to ensure as much of the car’s 1,100Nm of torque is available when you press the throttle.

The suspension now comes with a Sport mode, stiffening the air-sprung system. Bentley and Comfort modes are also available, while Custom allows drivers to mix and match engine, steering and suspension settings.

The Mulsanne Speed is marked out by the dark tint to the tail-lights, headlights and chrome work. Interior changes extend to new carbon fibre inlays, while the Mulliner Driving Specification comes as standard, including diamond quilted seats. Expect a price of £250,000, with first deliveries in winter.

Bentley has also made the standard Mulsanne 13 per cent more efficient.
