2017 BMW 2 Series spied with minor design tweaks
Spy shots reveal new hexagonal LED headlights are on the way, alongside minor front apron alterations
A facelifted BMW 2 Series is in the works and it’s been caught by our spy photographers, revealing that BMW will treat its small coupe to minor design revisions later this year.
It’ll require a trained eye to spot the difference between the current 2 Series and the new model. The lack of masking confirms very little will change regarding the car's design.
At the front the 2017 2 Series will get a new pair of headlights with a new hexagonal lighting signature. The new style lights were introduced recently on the all-new 5 Series though they're already spanning out across BMW's range - last month's 4 Series coupe facelift introduced the new eyes to the 2 Series' bigger brother.
The nose of the car wears the only substantial piece of masking, suggesting changes to the kidney grilles alongside a slight alternation to the front apron. Around the back the taillights receive light masking, so expect a new lighting signature here too.
According to our spy photographers, the cabin of the facelifted 2 Series was covered, suggesting that the car’s interior will be where the bulk of the changes come. Should the 4 Series facelift be anything to go by, new interior trim materials, plus updates to the infotainment setup could be on the cards.
We’re expecting BMW to place an emphasis on new in-car technology in the updated cabin. The latest iDrive system should feature, upgrading the car’s infotainment setup. New driver assists should also appear.
In terms of engine options BMW is unlikely to change much, given the 2 Series received upgraded drivetrains earlier this year. The same lineup of turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and diesel options should remain.
As such, that leaves only suspension and chassis setups as the only mechanicals in line for a tweak. The changes will apply to both Coupe and Cabrolet models, and the facelifted 2 Series should go on sale summer 2017.
Should BMW change more about the way the 2 Series looks? Let us know in the comments...
