Renault's F1 future in doubt as it ups Formula E investment
Renault boss Carlos Ghosn says Formula E is a big part of the brand's motorsport plans but Formula One future is unclear
Renault boss Carlos Ghosn has committed to increasing his company's investment in electric racing series Formula E, but says Renault will only honour its existing contracts in F1, sparking doubts about its future role in the sport.
Speaking to Auto Express at the inaugural London E Prix where Renault won the constructors title, Ghosn said, "the only thing that's certain is that we will be bigger in formula e - we will be putting in more investment and more technology."
"In Formula One we are an engine manufacturer with a number of customers. And that means you are forgotten when you win and highlighted when you lose.
"We have choices, we could leave, we are less likely to be an engine manufacturer or we could own a team. But it's not only down to us, it's down to the organisers. We want to see how the governance of Formula One changes
"It's not about costs, it's about the return - we're not afraid of it. We have a long tradition but is it worth it? The more car makers that participate the better."
