Alfa Romeo
Alfa Romeo 4C Spider concept, Alfa Romeo MiTo QV, Alfa Romeo Giulietta QV, Alfa Romeo brand rethink to bring more exciting cars, Alfa Spider project on the ropes
Clearly, one of the carbon-fibre-built 4C’s most noteworthy attributes is its ultra-lightweight 895kg kerbweight. The new 4C Spider concept can’t quite match that figure but Alfa is saying that thanks to carbon fibre rollover bars and a lightweight canvas roof, the Spider is only about 60kg heavier than the hardtop.
An Alfa Romeo Giulietta and MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde (often known as Cloverleaf in the UK) also appeared on the stand. The updated Giulietta QV model gets the 237bhp 1.75-litre aluminium turbocharged petrol engine from the Alfa Romeo 4C coupe.
Aston Martin
Aston Martin V8 Vantage N430, Aston Martin DB9 Carbon Black and Carbon White
Aston Martin revealed two special edition models at the Geneva Motor Show, the V8 Vantage N430 is joined by the DB9 Carbon Black which is also available in Carbon White guise. The new models mark 101 years of Aston Martin production, with mechanical and cosmetic changes marking them out over the standard models.
Audi
Audi S1, Audi TT, Audi S3 Cabriolet, Audi RS4 Nogaro, New Audi R8 will be auto-only
Audi’s S range has been expanded by the arrival of the S1. Speculation of a higher-performance A1 had been fierce since the car’s launch four years ago. And while we’d already driven a prototype, and the limited edition A1 quattro, the debut of the production S1 is big news at Geneva 2014. The S1 is tipped to be a strong competitor in the hot-hatch market, with quattro four-wheel-drive and the 2.0-litre turbo engine from the S3 fitted.
Audi teased the aesthetic of the TT with the Allroad Shooting Brake in Detroit, and with the spy shots of pre-production TT prototypes, we have a pretty good idea about what the all-new model will look like. A bestseller in both of its previous incarnations, the third-generation TT will be one of the most popular attractions at Geneva
Audi has launched the fourth model in its S3 range at the show, too. The S3 Cabriolet uses the same 296bhp 2.0-litre turbo engine and Quattro four-wheel drive system as the S3, S3 Sportback and S3 Saloon.
BMW
BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe
BMW’s ever-expanding range has grown again, with the addition of the 2 Series Active Tourer at Geneva. A direct rival to Mercedes’ B-Class, the new model is BMW’s first front-wheel drive car, with prices expected to start from around the £22,000. First seen as the Concept Active Tourer, which has been shown in two different forms, the 2 Series Active Tourer is also expected to spawn a seven-seater variant in late 2014.
BMW’s new 4 Series Gran Coupe has also made its world debut at Geneva. The Gran Coupe is a four-door version of the latest 4 Series, and will rival the Audi A5 Sportback.
Citroen
Citroen Cactus, C4 Cactus Adventure concept Citroen C1, Citroen C5 CrossTourer
Another show star at Geneva is the Citroen C4 Cactus. It carries a new but simpler approach to design, and focuses on comfort and usability, rather than performance. The production version of the Cactus retains the striking design showcased by the concept, shown at last year’s Frankfurt show. The protective Airbumps have been included in the production model, while downsized engines mean fuel consumption is kept in check.
Citroen also revealed the latest version of its C1 city car. The C1 will be the sister car to the Toyota Aygo and Peugeot 108 – both were also shown at Geneva.
Ferrari
Ferrari California T, Ferrari FF trim levels announced
The California T is a facelifted California with a turbocharged 553bhp 3.9-litre V8. The new engine delivers an amazing 49 per cent increase in torque, which should be fun. An upgraded interior and looks, which bring it closer to those of the 458 Italia, FF and F12.
Ford
Ford Focus facelift, Ford Mustang, Ford Focus ST diesel confirmed
Ford’s huge effort to grow its European product portfolio continues apace. Star of its stand is the facelifted Focus. It takes its styling direction from the latest Fiesta, with a big front grille dominating the nose. An upgraded interior and new engine options are also be included.
As well as the Focus, Ford has given us a taste of the future, with a look at the forthcoming Mustang and the Edge SUV, which are both due to hit UK roads in 2015.
Honda
Honda Civic Type R concept, Honda NSX powertrain revealed
We drove a Civic Type-R prototype back in November, but the production model isn’t due to debut until later this year. We know that Honda is promising at least 276bhp from the 2.0-litre direct injection turbo engine, but a Geneva show concept will give us our best idea yet of how the car will look when it arrives in showrooms in early 2015.
Hyundai
Hyundai Genesis, Hyundai Intrado concept
As Hyundai’s ambition to drive the brand upmarket gains pace, the firm has shown its all-new Mercedes S-Class-rivalling Genesis at the Geneva show. The Genesis will be offered in the UK with right-hand drive later in the year, although it will only be sold in limited numbers direct from Hyundai GB, rather that its dealers.
The Genesis range kicks off with a 3.8-litre V6 petrol, with a 5.0-litre V8 topping the range. Four-wheel drive is also an option.
Hyundai also revealed a concept car called the Intrado. It's fitted with a hydrogen fuel-cell motor, and the concept’s look previews new design chief, Peter Schreyer’s direction for the brand’s future.
Infiniti
Infiniti has revealed the first tech details on the 560bhp Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge performance saloon. The flagship has the same 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 as the Nissan GT-R, which powers all four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch auto box. Although it’s only a concept, the hot Q50 promises 0-60mph in under four seconds and a 180mph top speed – faster than the BMW M5 and Mercedes E63 AMG.
Jaguar
Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake, Jaguar announces new engines, New baby Jaguar saloon to be called XE, New model every 6 months for JLR
Jaguar has kept us guessing about whether it would build a high-performance XF Sportbrake, but we now have an emphatic answer. Rather than simply building a XFR Sportbrake, Jaguar has skipped straight to XFR-S specification for the most practical model in its range.
Unveiled at Geneva Motor Show, the Sportbrake joins the XFR-S Saloon and XKR-S as the third member of the ballistic R-S family. Like its siblings it uses a 542bhp 5.0-litre supercharged V8 producing 680Nm of torque – enough to rocket it from 0-60mph in 4.6 seconds, 0.2 seconds slower than the XFR-S Saloon, and on to an identical top speed of 186mph, despite weighing around 90kg more.
Jaguar also announced that its new BMW 3 Series-rivalling saloon car would be called the XE.
Jeep
Jeep Renegade, Jeep could build a smaller SUV than the Renegade
Jeep's new Nissan Juke rival is called the Renegade. Initial reports hinted that the baby SUV would be badged ‘Jeepster’ but the latest information reveals it is likely to be given the ‘Renegade’ moniker. The images show the Renegade to adopt a very boxy and squared off design, inspired by the classic Wrangler.
Kia
Kia Soul EV, Kia's Juke rival on the way
Kia is banking on models that we've seen before to impress Geneva visitors. The Soul EV and the Kia GT4 Stinger concept debuted at US shows earlier in the year but they're both at Geneva for their first outings in Europe. A facelifted version of the Sportage compact SUV will be of most interest to UK car buyers.
Lamborghini
We already know the four-wheel drive 602bhp Lamborghini Huracan’s performance will be sensational. The 0-62mph sprint takes 3.2 seconds (0.2 seconds faster than the Ferrari 458 Italia, but 0.2 seconds slower than the new McLaren 650S), 0-125mph takes 9.9 seconds and top speed is 202mph.
Land Rover
Land Rover Defender Black and Silver option packs, Range Rover Evoque Autobiography Dynamic, Land Rover hints at future products, New model every 6 months for JLR
The 280bhp Evoque Autobiography Dynamic is the hottest version of the Range Rover Evoque yet and Land Rover hopes it will provide a fitting response to the Porsche Macan that's been gaining rave reviews of late. Meanwhile, the stand also boasts special edition versions of the Defender, Discovery and Freelander.
Lexus
Lexus will show its new BMW 4 Series-rivalling RC Coupe in Europe for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show. Although it doesn’t go on sale here until 2015, Lexus will show off the flagship 5.0-litre V8-powered RC F, and the hybrid RC 300h version of the coupe at the show – the latter debuting the new F Sport equipment level for the first time.
Maserati
Named after one of the founders of Maserati, the Alfieri was introduced to Geneva Motor Show crowds by CEO Harald Wester, who proclaimed it “the future of Maserati.” It’s based on a shortened version of the GranTurismo MC Stradale platform – about 24cm shorter – and is powered by the same 4.7-litre naturally aspirated V8 as that car. It develops 460bhp and is hooked up to a six-speed automatic gearbox.
Mazda
Mazda will be replacing its stylish Mazda2 supermini with an all-new model soon and the design of that new car was trailed at Geneva by the Hazumi concept car. In Japanese, ‘Hazumi’ translates as ‘spring up’ or ‘bound’, which Mazda claims is ‘well-suited to a small car that appears to be bursting with energy.’ If the production car can stick closely to this concept, Mazda will certainly have one of the best-looking cars in the class.
McLaren
Take a McLaren 12C as a starting point, add styling and technology from the P1 hypercar and the new 650S is the result. Revealed here in coupe form, alongside a Spider version, the 650S slots into the line-up between the 12C and the P1.
Power from the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine has increased by 25bhp to 641bhp, while the torque has shot up from 600Nm to 678Nm. As a result the 0-62mph time has dropped by 0.1 seconds to 3.0 seconds, while 0-125mph now takes just 8.4 seconds – an improvement of 0.5 seconds. Despite this, McLaren claims CO2 emissions has been cut by 4g/km to 275g/km.
Mercedes
Mercedes has showcased the production version of the S-Class Coupe at Geneva. We’d already seen spy shots and the concept version of the S-Class Coupe so we had a good idea of what it would look like. Under the bonnet, the 449bhp 4.7-litre V8 found in the S500 is likely to be fitted.
MINI
MINI Clubman Concept, MINI won't go bigger than the Countryman
Two concept cars are starring on MINI’s Geneva show stand, both shown alongside the firm’s new third generation hatchback.
The first is a look at the next generation MINI Clubman with six-doors and more carrying capacity than before. Then there's the MNI JCW which was first showcased at Detroit but it made its European debut at Geneva. MINI has called it a concept but in reality it’s a thinly veiled version of the production model. It will be powered by a tuned version of the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine in the current Cooper S, producing around 217bhp.
Nissan
Nissan Juke facelift, Nissan Juke Nismo RS, Nissan X-Trail specs and details revealed
We’ve spied the facelifted Juke testing in Scandinavia, but the Geneva Motor Show gave us our first look at the new-look Juke. As well as a freshen-up for the exterior, expect a revised interior, with the infotainment from the latest Qashqai, and the 1.2-litre DiG-T to replace the naturally aspirated 1.6-litre petrol. The hot Nismo RS version packs a 215bhp turbocharged motor.
Nissan is also showing its striking BladeGlider concept to the show, with a positive reaction from punters key to getting a limited production run signed-off, and the production version of its electric e-NV200 van.
Peugeot
Peugeot’s attempt at a VW Golf Estate rival has been shown at Geneva. The 308 SW has a 610-litre boot capacity – bigger than the Golf and SEAT Leon estates – and the most efficient model emits only 85g/km of CO2. Peugeot has also cut 140kg from the weight of the outgoing model thanks to the new EMP2 platform – helping further boost economy.
Peugeot also showed its all-new city car that will replace the 107. The 108 is the sister car to the Citroen C1 and Toyota Aygo which were also shown at Geneva.
Porsche
Porsche 919 Le Mans racer
The Porsche 919 Hybrid LMP1 car has eschewed the famous ‘Martini’ racing colours and uses a minimalist black and white design instead. And like all the front-runners at the famous 24 hour race it features a closed cockpit and massive aero rear wing.
Qoros
Chinese manufacturer Qoros has shown its second production model at the Geneva Show, the 3 hatchback. It’s based on the 3 saloon, but receives minor visual tweaks at the front, in addition to its hatchback rear, to set it apart. There is no announcement as yet of plans for a UK version.
Rolls-Royce
Rolls Royce Ghost facelift, Latest news on Rolls Royce SUV, Rolls-Royce to use plug-in hybrid tech
The Rolls-Royce Ghost has been facelifted by the legendary British brand to give it a more modern look and add technology that will pamper its driver and passengers to an even greater extent than the current model.
Renault
Renault Twingo, Renault Clio RS Monaco GP edition revealed
While Geneva has played host to the debut of many sports cars over the years, this year’s show looks set to be dominated by city cars. As well as the arrival of the Toyota Aygo, Citroen C1 and Peugeot 108, the show has seen the debut of the new Renault Twingo. Co-developed with Smart, the Twingo will be twinned with the Smart ForFour, and features a rear-wheel drive, rear-engined layout.
SEAT
SEAT’s hottest ever hatch, the new Leon Cupra, has just set a new Nurburgring lap record for a front wheel drive car. Lap records at the Nurburgring are continuing to tumble, with SEAT announcing the new 278bhp Leon Cupra has smashed the record for the fastest front wheel drive production car to lap with ‘ring. With a time of 7 minutes and 58.4 seconds, the Leon Cupra is a whole 10 seconds quicker than the Renault Megane RS Trophy which previously held the record.
Skoda
Skoda VisionC Coupe Concept, Skoda Octavia Scout
Skoda unveiled a four-door Coupe concept at Geneva. Called the VisionC, it shows what’s in store for Skoda’s all-new Fabia and Superb, due within the next two years.
It’s not the first time Skoda has shown one concept to preview the look of more than one new car. The VisionD, shown in 2011, previewed the latest Rapid and Octavia models. We were also treated to the new off-road ready Octavia Scout.
Ssangyong
Ssangyong XLV, Ssangyong to change name
Ssangyong announced that it was changing its name at Geneva Motor Show this year and its impressive XLV SUV concept was slightly lost in the midst of that momentous news.
Subaru
Subaru WRX STi and VIZIV 2 concept unveiled
There was a trio of debuts at the Subaru stand in Geneva as the manufacturer showed off the latest WRX STi, its racing counterpart and an all-new VIZIV 2 concept car. A 2.5 litre engine producing 296bhp powers the new WRX STi, and this helps it cover the 0-62mph sprint in just 5.2 seconds.
Toyota
Toyota Aygo, Toyota on course to sell fuel cell cars by 2015
Toyota has revealed the Aygo city car at Geneva. It shares a platform with the Citroen C1 and Peugeot 208 that were also unviled at the show. If you're struggling to decide which one you like best, our video might help.
Vauxhall
Vauxhall Astra Extreme, Vauxhall Adam Rocks, Vauxhall Adam S
Vauxhall has shown the Adam Rocks concept and the Adam S, a hot hatch version of its compact city car.
Vauxhall has also unveiled an Astra Extreme concept, which takes the normal Astra VXR, uprates the powertrain, brakes and suspension, and cuts weight with the use of carbon fibre body panels and a stripped-out interior.
Volkswagen
Volkswagen Polo facelift, Volkswagen T-ROC concept, Volkswagen Scirocco facelift
VW introduced the facelifted version of the Polo at Geneva. Changes are minor but it will have a slightly sharper design and redesigned grille. There was also a revised version of the Scirocco coupe on the stand.
The three-door T-ROC concept has surprised Geneva Motor Show visitors with its radical styling. Its large, round headlamps echo the Nissan Juke’s, while the high-mounted honeycomb grille and lower sill guard create the feeling that this four-wheel-drive car could excel off-road.
Volvo
Before the all-new Volvo XC90 arrives at the Paris Motor Show in September, Volvo has shown the third of its three concept cars, which all preview the firm’s new look.
We’ve already seem the svelte Coupe Concept and XC Coupe, but the third in the trilogy is a new interpretation of Volvo’s bread-and-butter model, the large estate car.
