The Goodwood Festival of Speed is over for another year. We round-up 2014's best news, pictures and video here

The 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed proved to be an unmissable event and we were on hand bringing you all the big news stories and stunning pictures live.

Everything kicked off with the Goodwood Moving Motorshow on Thursday and in what seemed like the blink of an eye, the final car went up the Goodwood hill on Sunday evening. Of course, a whole lot took place inbetween.

The Goodwood estate in deepest West Sussex was transformed into a petrolhead heaven for the Goodwood FoS weekend and the Auto Express team were out in the thick of the action.

We rounded up our best cars of the show, gave you the lowdown on our own drives up the Goodwood hill and explored the pick of the incredible Goodwood supercar paddock. Our Goodwood live gallery gave a flavour of the event in pictures and we brought you all the big news stories as they happened.

Alpina B4

Alpina has launched its new B4 Bi-Turbo in the UK at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Based on the latest 3 Series and 4 Series platform, the tuned petrol-engined car will start from £58,950 for the Coupe, rising to £62,950 for the Convertible variant – this features an insulated metal roof that closes in 20 seconds at up to 11mph.

Aston Martin DP-100 Vision Gran Turismo Concept

The Aston Martin DP-100 Vision GT concept has just been unveiled at Goodwood. It will remain only as a virtual racer but owners of Gran Turismo 6 will be able to download the car from July. It features a 800bhp twin-turbo V12 engine, with styling cues that could point towards future Aston production models.

Audi R8 LMX

The last hurrah for the R8 supercar has more power, but it's also the world's first road car to feature laser-powered headlights. 

Bentley Continental GT3-R

Goodwood FoS 2014

The fastest-accelerating Bentley ever produced is powered by a 4.0-litre V8 engine. With 572bhp, 700Nm of torque and 100kg less weight, all 300 hand built GT3-Rs are sure to sell fast. 

BMW i8

The hybrid supercar has made its UK debut at the 2014 GFoS event.

BMW M4 Cabriolet

The sister car to the new turbocharged M4 Coupe and M3 Saloon arrives for its 'dynamic debut' on the hill, sporting 425bhp of six-cylinder firepower to shift the extra heft of its folding hard-top roof.

Elemental RP1

Elemental has revealed its new RP-1 road-legal track car at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed. According to the Surrey-based start-up, this open top, mid-engined two-seater will arrive early next summer and previews a “new generation of world class British sports cars”. 

Ford Focus ST

Ford Focus ST Goodwood

The facelifted Ford Focus ST has made its global debut at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed. We’ve already seen the standard hatch’s 2014 updates, which include styling tweaks, revised in-car technology and a new interior.

Honda Civic Type R concept

Lairy-looking prototype of the superhatch Honda hopes to set a new Nurburgring lap record with is shown to the public in the UK for the very first time at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Honda NSX

Also making its UK debut is Honda's new hybrid supercar concept car, due on sale in 2015 with a combination of petrol-fed V6 and electric motor power for banzai all-wheel drive performance.

Jaguar Project 7

Jaguar's Special Vehicle Operations team has unveiled the Jaguar F-Type Project 7 production car, and with 567bhp from a remapped 5.0-litre supercharged V8 it’s the fastest, most powerful roadgoing Jaguar ever. The two-seater features a D-Type-inspired design, including an asymmetrical hump on the rear deck just like the Project 7 concept of 2013. The car is one of the stars of Goodwood this year.

Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake

Jaguar's most extreme family car ever deployed its XJ220 supercar-matching 542bhp output on the hill. Could it be Goodwood's fastest ever wagon?

Koenigsegg One:1

Koenigssegg One:1

Goodwood 2014 is the first place in the world the general public has been able to see the 1322bhp One:1 hypercar in action. The 1340kg carbon fibre missile is in with a chance of swiping the road-legal car hillclimb record.

Lexus RC F

The Lexus RC F is making its UK debut at Goodwood this year, and thanks to over 450bhp from its 5.0-litre V8 it should put on quite a show. It could even turn the heads of a few potential BMW M4 buyers... 

McLaren MSO 650S

McLaren's Special Operations division has unveiled its bespoke take on the 650S ahead of a production run limited to just 50 models. Based on the MSO concept unveiled in China earlier this year, it'll use the standard car's underpinnings, but gains additional styling features, including satin-finished carbon fibre. You'll need deep pockets though, both the Coupe and Spider start from over a quarter of a million pounds.

Mercedes CLS facelift

The new Mercedes CLS has been officially unveiled in both its four-door Coupe and five-door Shooting Brake forms ahead of its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.  

Nissan Concept 2020 Vision GT

Nissan has officially revealed the Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo, a 2+2 virtual supercar developed exclusively for the PlayStation-only Gran Turismo 6 racing game. The covers came off the real-life version of this virtual car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.  

Peugeot 208 GTi 30th anniversary Limited Edition

Peugeot is marking 30 years of the GTi badge with a limited-run special edition 208. It'll go on sale this November after appearing at the Paris Motor Show and is likely to cost around £2,500 more than the standard 208 GTi. 

Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak

Sebastien Loeb's Pikes Peak Peugeot 208 T16

Sebastian Loeb is reunited with the 875bhp one-off in which he smashed the Pikes Peak hillclimb record in 2013. Target: the title of fastest Goodwood hill run ever.

Range Rover Sport SVR

Range Rover Sport SVR

The new high-performance SVR Range Rover Sport gives the Goodwood showgoers a chance to hear the roar from its 542bhp 5.0-litre supercharged V8. We’re expecting the newcomer to be able to sprint from 0-62mph in around 4.8 seconds. 

Range Rover Sport Stealth Pack

Land Rover has revealed its new Stealth Pack for the Range Rover Sport at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Offered on all models above entry-level HSE trim, the optional exterior styling pack starts from £1,700 when selected with 21-inch wheels, while opting for the larger 22-inch alloys sees the price rise to £2,500. It’ll be available to order in the UK from July, with deliveries expected to begin towards the end of the year.

Volkswagen GTI Roadster

Volkswagen has blurred the boundaries between the virtual and real worlds with the unveiling of the GTI Roadster. Originally created for the PlayStation 3 game Gran Turismo 6, the radical concept was brought to life at the famous GTI meet in Worthersee, Germany. Now it's been shown to UK fans at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Goodwood Festival of Speed 2014: the hillclimb results

Much was made of Sebastien Loeb's attempt at setting a new record for the famous Goodwood hilclimb competition in 2014. In the end, his Pikes Peak-winning Peugeot 208 T16 failed to trouble the 41.6s time Nick Heidfeld set with a McLaren MP4-13 in 1999. Loeb was the fastest on the hill this year though, as the results below show…

Part of the Goodwood Festival of Speed's appeal is seeing some of the top racing drivers and celebrities in action on the hillclimb - and 2014's Festival saw plenty of big-name drivers take to the track.

Cyclist Chris Hoy managed to secure the most column inches of any driver in 2014 with a spectacular detour off the track and through some hay bales in a Nissan GT-R. The other big names managed to escape with their reputations intact.

Here are some of the best-known names to appear at Goodwood 2014...

Andre Lotterer

Lotterer, 32, made his first Goodwood Festival of Speed showing in 2014. In addition to driving a 700bhp Audi 90 quattro GTO from 1989, the double Le Mans winner also drove his 2014 Le Mans winning Audi R18 e-tron quattro up the hill.

Felipe Massa

The current Williams and former Ferrari F1 driver got behind the wheel of Damon Hill's 1996 Williams FW18 title winning F1 car. Massa's current Williams team-mate, Valtteri Bottas, was also in attendance. A 2014 Williams Martini F1 car was also be on display. 

Lewis Hamilton

The 2008 Formula 1 World Champion and current Mercedes F1 driver drove one of the current Mercedes F1 cars at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Jenson Button

The 2009 F1 World Champion and current McLaren F1 driver drove a variety of McLarens, both road cars and racing cars.

Charley Boorman

The 'Long Way Round' star and bike enthusiast rode up the hill on his BMW GS 1150 motorcycle.

Emerson Fittipaldi

The F1 World Champion and Indy 500 drove his 1974 title-winning McLaren M23 F1 car.

Dario Franchitti

An IndyCar champion and Indy 500 winner, Franchitti took on the hill in a Mercedes DTM car.

Damon Hill

The famous F1 champ drove his Williams FW18 Formula 1 car.

Sebastien Loeb

The nine-time world rally champion and Pikes Peak record holder tried and failed to break the hill record in his 850hp Pikes Peak Peugeot. He also drove a Citroen DS3 on the Rally Stage.

Sir Stirling Moss

One of the best-known names in British racing, Sir Stirling took a Mercedes W196 Streamliner up the hill.

Kimi Raikkonen

The 2007 Formula 1 world champion and current Ferrari F1 driver was in attendance at the Festival.

Sir Jackie Stewart

Top F1 driver Sir Jackie Stweart returned to the Festival in his Tyrrell-Cosworth 001 F1 car.

John Surtees

The only person to win Motorcycle and Formula 1 World Championships, John Surtees drove his championship-winning 1964 Ferrari 158.

Goodwood Festival of Speed 2014: Unbeatable Champions of Motor Sport

The theme for this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed was ‘Addicted to Winning – The Unbeatable Champions of Motor Sport.‘ The 2014 event celebrated legendary racing drivers, teams and manufacturers from around the world. Goodwood owner Lord March announced Mercedes as the sponsor this year's show as the brand celebrated 120 years of motorsport competition.

Alongside the main theme for the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the show also marked the centenary of Italian manufacturer Maserati. Some of the most successful racing cars from the marque’s history were showcased at Goodwood, including the 1928 Maserati Tipo 26B and MC12 GT racer.
