Stunning Icona Vulcano to debut at Pebble Beach 2015
Chinese brand Icona's 670bhp hypercar will be shown at Pebble Beach in near production form
It's been two years since we first saw the dramatic Icona Vulcano concept at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show.Things have been quiet ever since, but now it seems the Chinese hypercar will be hitting this year's Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
The difference this time, according to the fledgling Icona brand, is that this Vulcano will be take another step towards production with styling and powertrain changes, detailed in this design sketch video.
Bold original claims of two thumping powertrain options have been toned down a bit. The concept was said to be available with a petrol V12 and single electric motor sending 937bhp to the rear, or a twin-turbo V6 and twin electric motors with a total output of 858bhp.
This year's car will instead come with the 670bhp supercharged V8 engine from the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. Icona claims it is able to fire from 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds and go on to a top speed of 220mph.
The striking looks, created by designer Samuel Chuffart, are formed by a body made largely from titanium and a chassis underneath from carbon-fibre. We'll know more about the bonkers Vulcano at this year's Pebble Beach event, which kicks off this Sunday.
