Citroen C1 Urban Ride crossover concept in Paris
Jacked-up, SUV-style city car ‘concept’ joins army of Citroens at 2014 Paris Motor Show
Citroen has revealed yet another concept car at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, called the C1 Urban Ride. The taller, crossover-style C1 joins the C4 Cactus Airflow 2L, the DS Divine and two fashion-inspired DS3 concepts on Citroen’s Paris show stand.
Though officially a concept car, the C1 Urban Ride is very obviously based on the new C1 city car. Like the Vauxhall Adam Rocks, the Citroen aims to combine tiny city car proportions with chunky SUV-like styling, and has 15mm of extra ride height and a 10mm wider track. There are also bulkier bumpers with plastic cladding, contrast-colour skidplates and LED running lights. Two Urban Ride versions are on display at the show: a hard-top version, and an Airscape model with a fabric roof, which hints at a Citroen rival for Vauxhall’s Adam Rocks Air soft-top.
The C1 Urban Ride is a cosmetic exercise first, with Citroen saying it “illustrates the potential [of the C1’s] personalisation”. Given there are no major engineering changes under the skin, it’s highly likely the Urban Ride will make production soon, joining the Citroen C1 range in early 2015. To accelerate the process, Citroen is hosting a vote on its Paris show stand, where visitors can lobby the company to put the car into showrooms.
