Jeep Renegade Hard Steel: the concept car that tows itself
Special concept version of Jeep's Renegade crossover gains a multimedia trailer modelled on its own rear end
Jeep's Geneva Motor Show stand features one of the wildest versions of the Jeep Renegade crossover SUV we've seen so far. The Jeep Renegade Hard Steel show car has been created to showcase the range of customisation options available in Jeep's Mopar accessories range, but the highlight is a giant touchscreen-equipped trailer designed to look like the Renegade's own rear end.
The Renegade Hard Steel is based on the Trailhawk off-road edition of the production Renegade but gains brushed steel paintwork and a series of other exterior styling tweaks. The special roof bars, alloy wheels, bonnet vents and bumpers are all finished in matt black, while the car also gets raised suspension and chunky BF Goodrich all-terrain tyres.
The interior of the Hard Steel gets more brushed steel detailing and the metallic theme continues on the leather seats. These are upholstered with Frau Century lead-coloured leather and Jeep claims it's the first time thie material has been used in a car. The leather is specially treated to produce a worn effect that's uniquely soft to the touch.
It's the specially created trailer that's the standout feature on the Jeep Renegade Hard Steel though. Jeep has equipped it with a giant touchscreen display designed to showcase the latest Uconnect LIVE in-car infotainment tech on its Geneva show stand.
The car has its own Wi-Fi hotspot, enabling its matching appendage to access internet radio, social media and real-time traffic updates among many other infotainment functions. It also has a built in speaker system created to let showgoers listen to the 25-track Jeep Renegade Hard Steel playlist on the Jeep stand.
