New Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe SUV takes on Paris 2016

New flagship Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe has twin-turbo V6 and quicker 0-62mph time than a Macan GTS

This is the new Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe – the brand’s latest AMG flagship to join its ever-growing range of performance models. It, along with the new GT C Roadster and Generation EQ concept car has populated Mercedes' stand at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.

The GLC 43 Coupe has the same twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 and nine-speed automatic transmission that are found in other ‘43’ models including the GLC 43 SUV and the C 43 range. Just like those cars, the engine churns out 362bhp and 520Nm of torque and sends it to all four wheels through Mercedes’ 4MATIC system.

The GLC 43 Coupe is capable of 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds – the same as a Porsche Macan GTS and quicker than a Jaguar F-Pace S – and will reach a limited top speed of 155mph. Official fuel economy figures stand at 34mpg and 192g/km.

As it’s an AMG model, the GLC 43 Coupe features sports steering and a five-mode Dynamic Select drive system. The standard air suspension means you can raise the ride height if you’re brave enough to take it off road, while the rear-biased 4MATIC four-wheel drive system should make for a sportier drive.

The sporty theme continues with the exterior and interior styling. On the outside, the GLC 43 Coupe has a chunky front bumper, a small but steeply raked spoiler, quad chrome exhausts and 19-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, buyers are treated to details like metal pedals, carbon fibre effect on the centre console and flashes of red in the seat stitching and on the seatbelts. Equipment also includes man-made leather sports seats, a sports steering wheel and even a race lap timer display available on the instrument cluster’s central screen.

The new Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe will make its public debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show on 28th September before going on sale in December. Prices are currently unannounced, but since the GLC Coupe is around £5,000 more than the regular GLC, we could see the 43 Coupe start from around £52,000.
