Lamborghini Aventador J

Wild roofless Aventador Spider takes centre stage at the VW Group preview

Lamborghini has sent shockwaves through the Geneva Motor Show with an Aventador Speedster - revealed at the VW Group's preview night. And the one-off supercar is not only fully road legal, but has already been sold.

We spoke to Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini CEO, who told us: "A number of high-profile clients were interested in this car, in the end we picked one of our most loyal customers who bought it for €2.1million plus VAT. After Geneva and some other promotional activity, he will have it delivered to him."

The stunning one-off Aventador J has no roof or windscreen and features a stripped-out interior, yet is fully road legal. It uses the same 690bhp 6.5-litre V12, permanent four-wheel-drive system and F1-style pushrod suspension as the standard LP700-4 Aventador, but the carbon-fibre tub has been chopped and strengthened with two safety bars behind the seats.

Luxuries such as the air-conditioning, sat-nav and stereo have been removed to save weight, so it should go from 0-62mph in less than the coupe’s 2.9 seconds and hit a top speed in excess of 210mph.

The extended sills, huge rear diffuser, rear wing and front spoiler are all crafted from carbon fibre, while the aluminium wheels get carbon inserts to cool the brakes. Even the seats feature a new material called Carboskin.

The ‘J’ in the name refers to the Jota – an extreme one-off version of the Lamborghini Miura built in 1970 – and just like that car, the Aventador J is ready to drive.

Winkelmann refused to comment on when a more conventional Aventador Roadster would appear, but did confirm that the all-carbon Sesto Elemento concept will reach limited production next year. And we can expect to see more one-offs like the Aventador J in the future.
