Citroen e-SpaceTourer range expanded with new XL variants

The Citroen e-SpaceTourer electric people carrier is now available in extended wheelbase form, boosting its maximum load space to 3,100-litres

Citroen has bolstered the e-SpaceTourer range with a pair of new XL variants, meaning the electric people carrier’s line-up now mirrors that of the diesel model.

Prices for the new long-wheelbase model start from £32,495 (including the government’s £2,500 plug-in car grant) which is £1,500 more expensive than the standard e-SpaceTourer.

The e-SpaceTourer XL is available in a choice of two trim-levels. The entry-level Business Edition comes as standard with steel wheels, cruise control and a driver attention monitor. Inside, there’s seating for up to nine people, with the second row coming as standard with Isofix points and 66:33 split-folding function. Other equipment includes air conditioning and a seven-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

All of the rear seats can also be removed to turn the e-SpaceTourer into a van. With the space cleared, the XL’s load bay will swallow 3,100 litres loaded to the roof. That’s 550 litres more than you get in the standard-length version.

Flair trim-level builds on the Business Edtion’s specification with 17-inch alloy wheels, chrome exterior trim, body-coloured door handles and a panoramic glass sunroof. Prices start from £48,335.

There’s seating for eight inside, with the three-abreast front bench being swapped for a pair of wider individual chairs. Buyers also get leather upholstery, connected navigation with live traffic updates and a heating and massage function for the front two seats.

Flair models get a little more safety technology in the shape of a blind-spot monitoring system, a speed limiter and an e-Call system which automatically contacts the emergency services in the event of an accident.

Like the standard-length e-SpaceTourer, the extended wheelbase model is powered by a 134bhp electric motor mounted on the front axle and a 50kWh battery pack. Citroen says the system can cover 143 miles between charges – or, exactly the same as the standard MPV.

When connected to a 100kW DC rapid charger, the e-SpaceTourer’s battery pack will take on an 80 percent charge in just 30 minutes, while a full charge using a 7.4kW wallbox takes seven hours and 30 minutes.
