Nissan Teatro for Dayz concept is a social media hub on wheels

Wacky Nissan Teatro for Dayz concept designed for next-generation drivers debuts at the Tokyo Motor Show 2015

This is the Nissan Teatro for Dayz. An all-electric concept car revealed here at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, designed to appeal to the next-generation of drivers who are growing up in an increasingly digital age.

Centring on connectivity and cutting edge tech, the Teatro for Dayz concept combines the Japanese brand’s vision for the future of how young people will use their vehicles with the compact dimensions of Japan’s famous kei cars.

Nissan has coined the term ‘share natives’ to describe the type of person this vehicle is designed for. According to Nissan these people are constantly sharing experiences and stories online and connecting with friends on social media. To that end, Nissan has kitted the Teatro for Dayz out with a host of tech to keep the ‘share natives’ happy.

Inside, you’ll find lounge style seating, which allows passengers to turn and face one another, while the door trims, dash and seats have all been fitted with digital displays which ‘serve as a blank canvas for expression.’ All conventional buttons and dials have also been ditched in favour of voice control and motion sensors, which gesture control for the air conditioning and audio system.

On the outside, there are familiar Nissan design cues seen in the v-motif grille and narrow headlamps, but Nissan says it dropped design elements that would portray speed, size or elegance as “this car's identity belongs to the owner, and design assumptions we make just limit their creativity.

"Share natives feel that time spent in a car should be time for connecting and sharing experiences with friends,” said Nissan's Product Planning General Manager Hidemi Sasaki. “We can no longer attract their attention with the same old values."

The Teatro for Dayz is ripe for personalisation as a result, with the white exterior allowing a space for people to seriously personalise their car in the future.

The concept also benefits from Nissan’s electric vehicle expertise, with the Japanese manufacturer stating the Teatro for Dayz could “be seen as an indication of what people will expect of EVs in the future."
