Porsche Cayman GT4 appears once again

More power, less weight and more drama for Porsche Cayman GT4, spied completely undisguised

Porsche is still working on a serious performance upgrade for the Cayman, as our spies have caught a range-topping GT4 model on test again. Snapped completely undisguised, this hunkered down and stripped out Cayman is expected to be the most powerful version of the coupe ever produced, with a debut likely later this year.

The German manufacturer hasn’t done a great job of disguising its latest performance model, with aero-inspired bumpers, bonnet vents and wings there for all to see, removing all doubt that this Cayman will indeed jump straight to the top of the model range.

The styling very much follows that of the 911 GT3. Gaping air vents, flared arches and a fixed rear wing give us a clear indication that the GT4 will receive the same race car treatment – cosmetically and mechanically – as its bigger brother.

To do that we can expect well in excess of the 335bhp produced by the current flagship Cayman GTS. The 3.4-litre flat-six engine will remain, with as much as 380bhp rumoured – meaning it will surpass an entry-level 911 in the power stakes.

It's not yet known if the GT4 will be available with a manual gearbox, but if this Cayman is to stick to the same path as the 911 GT3, a PDK auto is likely to be the only option.

As with the 911 GT3, the Cayman GT4 will also shed weight. Thinner glass and lighter body panels will help cut some pounds, but judging by what we can see in the cabin, Porsche’s customary level of comfort and luxury will remain largely intact.

Specific performance and pricing details remain a little thin on the ground, but expect a significant premium over the £55,397 Cayman GTS and production numbers to be limited.
