Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid with 671bhp revealed ahead of Geneva

V8 powered hybrid four-door Grand Tourer gets 671bhp, an official top speed of 193mph and a Geneva Motor Show debut

Porsche has revealed its most powerful Panamera ever - the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid – a new flagship four-door coupe, which is a V8-powered stablemate for the V6-powered Panamera 4 E-Hybrid.

Revealed by Auto Express around the time of last year's Paris Motor Show, the new car will debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. The Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid uses the 542bhp 4.0-litre turbocharged V8 from the Panamera Turbo in tandem with a 134bhp electric motor, for a total power output of 671bhp and 850Nm of torque. Power is transferred to an all-wheel-drive system through an eight-speed PDK gearbox.

In terms of performance, Porsche says that the Turbo S E-Hybrid is capable of 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 193mph. That means the new addition to the Panamera range is two-tenths quicker to 62mph from standstill than the Panamera Turbo with launch control, and 3mph faster in terms of outright speed. However, our sister title evo has taken a ride in the new Panamera, and reckons Porsche is underestimating the new car's performance - at least 197mph is possible.

With plug-in hybrid assistance on board, Porsche claims that Turbo S-E Hybrid delivers up to 97.4mpg, though the real world figure should be much lower. CO2 emissions come in at 66g/km.

The electric motor is supplied with power from a 14.1kWh lithium ion battery pack that can be charged in six hours using the standard 3.6kW charger or 2 hours and 24 minutes with the optional 7.2kW setup. On start-up, the car defaults to electric power, and Porsche claims the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid can travel 31 miles on battery power alone.

The powertrain is joined by a selection of performance orientated standard parts, such as carbon-ceramic brakes, dynamic chassis control with torque vectoring as well as air suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management.

Porsche plans to launch the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid across Europe in July, with other markets later on in the year. It’ll be available as an Executive model too, boasting a wheelbase extended by 150mm. Prices in the UK will start from £137,140, with the long-wheelbase version costing £146,545.
