UK pricing and spec announced for tiny Smart ForTwo Cabrio

The cute little Smart ForTwo Cabrio drop-top goes on sale early 2016 with prices starting at £13,265

Smart has released pricing and spec details on the ForTwo cabrio, a drop-top version of its tiny city car. The ForTwo cabrio will start at £13,265.

The entry price will get you a base-spec 'Passion' model, equipped with the 70bhp engine. There are two other trim levels - 'Prime' and 'Proxy', along with a choice of automatic and manual gearboxes. Passion trim comes well equipped, though, with 15" alloy wheels, automatic climate control, Bluetooth connectivity, and a clever infotainment system that uses a smartphone as the display.

Prime and Proxy trims are identically priced but targeted differently. Classy Prime makes the alloy wheels black, and adds black leather upholstery to compliment them. The seats are heated, and additional dash 'pods' with a clock and rev counter are added.

Proxy brightens things up with a blue and white interior, and even larger alloy wheels, also finished in black. It adds sporty touches including a leather steering wheel, lowered suspension and a chrome exhaust pipe.

Most smart customers will upgrade with either the Premium or Premium Plus packages. Premium adds rear parking sensors, an upgraded infotainment system with sat-nav, and height adjustment for the steering wheel. Premium Plus upgrades this with ambient lighting, LED headlamps, auto lights and wipers, and a reversing camera.

All Smart ForTwo Cabrios have the same retractable soft-top roof, which is triple-layered and has a glass rear screen for improved insulation. It retracts fully into the folding tailgate, and alloys removal of the roof rails for the full top-down experience.

The two engines available in the Smart ForTwo Cabrio are both three-cylinder units shared with the Smart ForFour and Renault Twingo. The entry-level engine is a non-turbocharged 1.0-litre and has 70bhp, while the turbocharged 0.9-litre unit boosts this to 90bhp. Both engines are available with Smart's first dual-clutch gearbox - though a manual is standard. All Smart ForTwo Cabrios emit less than 100g/km CO2, making them free to tax.

The Smart ForTwo cabrio is available to order now, with deliveries starting in early 2016. Pricing starts from £13,265, rising to £15,550 for a Proxy or Prime model with the 90bhp engine and an automatic gearbox.
