UK prices and specs announced for new Vauxhall Mokka X SUV

Vauxhall's facelifted Mokka X crossover will be priced from £17,590 and will go on sale in October

The all-new Vauxhall Mokka X SUV now has a full list of prices and specifications ahead of its October on-sale date. The Nissan Juke-rivalling crossover is priced from £17,590 for a 1.6-litre petrol engined Design Nav car.

You can specify the new Mokka X in Design Nav, Active, Elite or Elite Nav trims, and all cars come with an eight-inch IntelliLink infotainment system with sat-nav, 18-inch alloy wheels, front fog lights and OnStar.

Your choice of engines include a 114bhp 1.6-litre petrol, a 138bhp or 150bhp 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol or a 1.6-litre diesel engine with either 109bhp or 134bhp. There's also the choice of a six-speed automatic on some engines and you can also have the 1.4-litre turbo petrol variants or the more powerful 1.6-litre diesel with adaptive four-wheel drive.

• Best 4x4s and SUVs

Vauxhall has been selective on which performance and economy figures to announce, but the 109bhp diesel can deliver up to a claimed 72.4mpg and costs just £20 to tax with its 103g/km emissions figure. If it's performance you're after, the punchy 150bhp 1.4-litre petrol engine is capable of 0-62mph in 9.4 seconds and a top speed of 120mph.

The X brand will be used on all the models in the respective ranges, but Adams said the badging will be slightly different for the four-wheel-drive versions: "On the 4x4 models, the badge will sit between the two fours."

The rear of the Mokka X is very similar to the previous model, but round the front it’s been given the new Vauxhall family face. It’s more chiselled than the outgoing model, with a "wing-shaped" front grille and fewer bits of extraneous plastic trim. There are also Adaptive Forward Lighting LED headlights to replace the previous Xenon units.

The inside has been given a more comprehensive redesign, and there are shades of the Astra about the Mokka X’s dash. That means a large IntelliLink touchscreen, fewer buttons than in the previous car and swathes of piano-black trim.

IntelliLink brings both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to the Mokka X, but the real star of the show is OnStar. Vauxhall calls the set-up a "personal connectivity and service assistant", and it combines plenty of functions. Kids in the back will be happy to use the built-in 4G wireless hotspot, but OnStar advisors are on hand 24/7 to download destinations to the sat-nav, bring roadside assistance to the vehicle’s location or even call the emergency services in the event of an accident.

What is Onstar?

The Mokka X will be available with the 1.6-litre ‘Whisper’ diesel we tested last year, but those after a petrol powerplant will be happy to see the new-generation 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine.

Vauxhall claims OnStar makes the Mokka X the best-connected car in the compact SUV market, and with a new look (penned by a British designer) and new engines, it could just be a winner in other areas, too. Having been unveiled officially at the Geneva Motor Show, the Vauxhall Mokka X will go on sale in October 2016.
