The xDrive20d diesel is likely to be the best seller of the range due to its good mix of performance, refinement and fuel economy. Petrol versions are also be available in the line-up.

Although the X2 gets digitised instruments as standard, they are lacking behind Audi’s Digital Cockpit display as the BMW only replaces the standard dials with computerised counterparts.

Base models of the X2 get a 6.5-inch infotainment system with sat-nav included while the optional Navigation Pack upgrades the screen to an 8.5inch touchscreen.

The driving position is quite low down considering the car is classed at an SUV, with it resembling that of a 1-Series hatchback rather than a higher up X1.

It has 470-litres of boot space, which is rather good compared to rivals like the Audi Q3 although it is still 35 litres smaller than its stable mate, the X1.
