It was a close run thing, but after much deliberation from our judging panel it was decided that the Auto Express Car of the Year 2017 had to be awarded to... the Land Rover Discovery!
The Volkswagen up! is the 2017 Auto Express City Car of the Year, beating the Kia Picanto and Skoda Citigo, which were both commended.

The 2017 Auto Express Supermini of the Year is the SEAT Ibiza, with the Citroen C3 and Skoda Fabia also commended in this category.
The Volkswagen Golf is the Auto Express Compact Family Car of the Year for 2017, narrowly beating the Skoda Octavia and Vauxhall Astra.

The Skoda Superb is the 2017 Auto Express Family Car of the Year, closely followed by the Toyota Prius and Vauxhall Insignia Grand Sport.
The Skoda Octavia Estate is the 2017 Auto Express Estate Car of the Year, with commendations being handed to the BMW 5 Series Touring and Skoda Superb Estate.

The 2017 Auto Express MPV of the Year is the Citroen Grand Grand C4 Picasso, with podium places for the Renault Grand Scenic and SEAT Alhambra.
The Citroen C4 Cactus is the 2017 Auto Express Small SUV of the Year, overcoming the Dacia Duster and Peugeot 2008, both of which were commended.

The Peugeot 3008 is the 2017 Auto Express Mid-size SUV of the Year, with commendations for the Mazda CX-5 and SEAT Ateca.
The Skoda Kodiaq is the 2017 Auto Express Large SUV of the Year, beating the commended efforts of the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento.

The Volvo XC60 is the 2017 Auto Express Premium SUV of the Year, just ahead of the Jaguar F-Pace and Mercedes GLC.
The 2017 Auto Express Large Premium SUV of the Year is none other than the Land Rover Discovery, fending off competition from the Tesla Model X and Volvo XC90.

The Mitsubishi L200 is the 2017 Auto Express Pick-up of the Year, although the Fiat Fullback and Nissan Navara were close behind.
The Honda Civic Type R is the 2017 Auto Express Hot Hatch of the Year, while the Ford Focus RS and Volkswagen Golf GTI were commended in defeat.

The Mercedes C-Class Cabriolet is the Auto Express Convertible of the Year for 2017, with the Audi A3 Cabriolet and MINI Convertible earning commendations from the judging panel.
