As we reported two weeks ago, hosepipe bans are set to come into effect in southern and eastern England next week – and that will mean one of the easiest ways to clean your car will be with a waterless wash. We tested the latest kit from Ultimate Finish.

The Professional Valet Pack includes 750ml of Waterless Wash and Wax formula, 500ml of Concentrated Tyre and Trim spray and four High-Grade Microfibre Cloths to apply with.

There’s plenty of carnauba wax in the large trigger bottle of waterless wash, and this makes applying it quite hard work. Give the bottle a good shake and do a panel at a time – otherwise it’ll smear.

The white liquid comes out quite blotchy, but only needs to be wiped in and then buffed with two of the cloths. While it’s not the easiest product to use – we prefer liquid-like rivals – the finish it left was very shiny.

Meanwhile, the tyre shine is superb. The concentrated formula simply sprays on to your rubber or plastic exterior trim, and it’ll take grey surfaces back to black. Again, use the cloths provided to rub the spray in. Our test car’s shiny black rubber and clean door trim looked great afterwards.

The £33 kit seems good value until you realise there’s no discount for buying them together. Ultimate Finish should provide one.

Verdict

Rating: ★★★★
What is it?
Waterless Wash and Wax comes in 750ml trigger pack, plus kit includes cloths.
What's good?
Includes four cloths, tyre shine and waterless wash and wax – so the kit is comprehensive.
What's not so good?
Sprays on in blotches and smears quite a lot when you first apply, an effort to achieve a shine.
