Lego has stepped up a gear with its new 2012 range – and we’ve rounded up our favourites, which make ideal playthings for children of all ages.

Topping the range is the Technic Rock Crawler. This remote-control car can overcome any off-road obstacle thanks to its large rubber tyres, independent suspension and articulated axles. It works using infra-red, and costs £140.

Elsewhere in the Technic range is the Tow Truck, which comes with a working folding tow lift for £49.99. Meanwhile, the £17.99 Quad Bike has front and rear suspension, and the £14.99 Crane can extend its lifting arm and pick up objects. The final product in the new Technic line-up is the £6.99 mini tow truck, a scaled-down vehicle which sports a winch.

In addition to these are eight new Disney Cars 2 kits. The £49.99 Oil Rig Escape set includes spy car Finn McMissile and villain Professor Z. Next up is the £25 Ultimate Race kit with Lightning McQueen, rally car Raoul Caroule and DTM car Max Schnell, while the Agent Mater’s Escape pack has the film’s tow truck and a bad guy. There are also single models of the F1 and NASCAR characters for £4.99 each.

The LEGO CITY range now includes an ambulance, garbage truck, tipper truck and dirt bike transporter, plus a car and caravan set for £14.99 each. Finally, there’s a £50 Batmobile kit.
