Keeping hands warm is a top priority for motorists at this time of year. But gloves are restrictive and have to be removed if you want to use a touchscreen smartphone or sat-nav. That’s where these new Touchscreen Gloves from IGI can help.
The black gloves are sourced from MonsterStuff.co.uk and look like any other pair, but if you look closely, you’ll spot small silver patches of conductive thread on each of the 10 fingertips.
These convey electrical impulses from your fingers to your device, and they work well – we entered a postcode into our iPhone sat-nav app as if we didn’t have any gloves on. Each finger has plenty of movement, and the gloves allow you to press physical buttons accurately, too.
They come in one size and fitted all three of our testers’ hands with ease, although those with smaller hands may find them too big.
Having been impressed with the gloves’ accuracy, we wanted to see how warm they were, so we headed outside to scrape the ice from a frozen windscreen.
The gloves aren’t waterproof, and at full stretch our (admittedly large) hands got a bit chilly as the wind passed straight through. But they’re still better than doing it with bare hands, and at £7.99 for a pair, they’re good value.
Verdict
Rating: ★★★★
What is it?
Gloves with patches of conductive thread on the fingertips, allowing the wearer to use touchscreen smartphones.
What's good?
Great value, don’t restrict movement, innovative solution for those cold winter mornings..
What's bad?
Not ideal for de-icing cars, as they’re made of wool and so aren’t windproof or waterproof..
