The Parrot MKi9200 hands-free kit has been given an overhaul. We tested it in 2009, but a software update means it’s now compatible with all versions of the iPhone.
It can tell you of missed calls, will launch audio from apps (such as sat-nav software) and allows you to make calls and play music via Bluetooth.
We fitted the Parrot ourselves, although it’s advisable to get the kit installed professionally. We concealed the double microphone near our rear view mirror, and chose to mount the screen by our radio, with the remote by the gearlever.
It’s a neat solution, as all media cables are hidden in the glovebox, and you can detach the screen and remote when not in use.
The remote’s scroll key lets you choose between the iPhone connection, aux-in, SD card, USB and phonebook. You can also use voice commands. However, some may find the bright 2.4-inch touchscreen too small.
We love the new feature which gave us the choice of connecting our iPhone with the Apple cable or pairing it via Bluetooth. Audio quality is great on either input, with no problems on our test calls. So the Parrot is a better overall package, and to add to the appeal, it now works with Android phones.
