Smartphone sat-nav app CoPilot Live has been given a fresh look, and we hit the road to test it.
Available for Android and Apple mobiles, new version 9 is easier to use than version 8, and also exploits more of the phone’s features – for instance, using a picture to set a destination.
Simply select a snap and CoPilot will plot a route to where it was taken. You can also search points of interest with Wikipedia or Bing, share route and itinerary details via Facebook and Twitter, and get speed camera warnings. Traffic alerts cost £9.99 a year, and appear only when jams affect your journey.
A progress bar allows you to see where the jam is en route, although the delay time is in tiny type and difficult to read when the phone is mounted to the windscreen. Directions are clear, with the next road identified and lane guidance for motorways.
Digital music playback is automatically muted for verbal instructions, although there is no in-app control of this.
Journey details are limited, too, and some functions require more taps with CoPilot than with rivals. UK and Ireland maps are £29.99; European coverage is £49.99
