FM transmitters are nothing new – plug one into your MP3 player, match the frequency displayed to your car radio, and you’re set.
But the new KitSound device for iPods and iPhones claims to be quicker than rivals, and cheaper, too.
Armed with an iPod, we switched on our stereo. Having selected a track to play on the iPod, the FM transmitter fired into life, lighting up its small LCD screen in the process.
You can set the frequency manually, using the two large buttons on the right, or let it scan through available channels to find the best option. After selecting 87.9FM as the optimum station, we put the iPod into a windscreen mount, tuned our stereo and hit the road.
In town, the KitSound struggles to make itself heard over local stations. It’s not powerful enough to prevent the interference, although tries hard to keep playing your music. Sound quality on the open road is far better, and it’s easy to forget this is a £30 unit.
