Motorstorm Apocalypse

Third installment of video game sees streets littered with debris and aggressive racers

Motorstorm Apocalypse

Price: £44.99 (PS3)

It’s the end of the world as we know it! Motorstorm Apocalypse is a console game that lets you drive through a devastated city and customise your car, bike or buggy as you go. We put it through its paces on a Sony PlayStation 3.

As with other titles in the Motorstorm franchise, you race your way to the top – bashing opponents out of contention as you go.

The controls are simple, and while the handling isn’t very realistic, you can tell the graphics team has
concentrated on the lifelike scenery. The game resembles a big-budget blockbuster when buildings fall, and using a 3D TV adds extra depth to the experience.

We have a few niggles – rivals let you past in the early races, and stiff competition doesn’t come until later. Plus, the cars aren’t licensed, so you won’t find models that you can drive on the street.

But there’s a split-screen multiplayer mode, as well as online options, to ensure you get your money’s worth.

Verdict

Rating: ★★★

A new video game featuring blockbuster-style visual effects and aggressive rivals determined to crash into you
Problems?
Handling is not very lifelike, no licensed cars.
Why buy?
Good fun, realistic graphics (especially on 3D TV), split-screen multiplayer mode, lots of online gaming options.
