NDrive Touch XL sat-nav
Price: £129.99 (usually £199.99) Rating: 4/5
Getting from A to B can be difficult enough in a car, but for pedestrians finding your destination around unfamiliar streets can be a nightmare.
There’s no need to buy two separate sat-navs, though – as Halfords’ NDrive Touch XL is a one-stop solution whether you’re driving or on foot.
We tested the unit when walking from a central London location to a nearby car park, then changed to in-car mode to travel the 30-odd miles to Windsor, Berks.
On start-up, the 14mm-thick display flickered and we were unsure when the device was ready.
We set the screen to counter the sun’s glare and followed the directions, but the map didn’t rotate to display the way we were walking.
Nevertheless, it highlighted points of interest such as cash machines.
3D landmarks were also displayed, although they weren’t visible when using the in-car mode.
In other respects, the unit works well when you’re at the wheel, calculating routes fast.
The display is clear, too, although the system doesn’t change modes automatically.
