Audi RS 5 Coupe and Sportback models get 2020 tweaks

New tech and design changes introduced to 444bhp RS 5 models; prices set to remain around the £70,000 mark

Audi has revised the RS 5 Coupe and RS 5 Sportback for 2020. The update to the Mercedes-AMG C63 rivals is comprised of a mix of cosmetic upgrades, improved interior tech and more customisable driving modes. 

The changes on the outside manage to further separate the hottest Coupe and Sportback models from the rest of the A5 range. At the front, there’s a wider, flatter grille inspired by those on the RS 6 and RS 7; above which sits a line of fake vents, inspired by those of the original Sport Quattro. The bumper also features reshaped air intakes to either side of the grille.

Wheel arches are 40mm wider front and rear compared to the standard A5, and new alloy wheels, measuring 19 inches as standard arrive with 20-inch items as an option. Elsewhere, there are also reshaped sills, rear diffuser and revised LED lighting graphics. Two new colours, Turbo blue and Tango red, have been added to the options list.

Inside, the RS 5 is treated to the same tech upgrades as the rest of the A5 range. That means a new 10-inch infotainment screen - now with touchscreen functionality - sits on the top of the dash. Elsewhere the design is much the same, but the 12.3-inch ‘Virtual Cockpit’ instrument panel gets revised graphics with exclusive RS modes.

The latest RS 5 models benefit from a couple of extra settings accessible through the drive mode select button - RS1 and RS2. These modes allow the driver to program their preferred engine, suspension, steering and exhaust settings, and access them easily from a steering wheel-mounted button.

The engine remains as it was before the updates. That means there’s a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 producing 444bhp, 600Nm and, thanks to a Quattro four-wheel drive system, it will propel both versions of the RS 5 from 0-62mph in 3.9 seconds. Top speed is limited to 155mph, but can be raised to 174mph at extra cost.

Sales will begin soon across Europe and the UK. Both Coupe and Sportback models are priced at the same €83,500, which converts to about £70,000 in the UK, which is pretty much unchanged from before the updates.
