Audi RS5 vs BMW M4 & BMW M3 drag race
We pit the Audi RS5 against the BMW M4 in this drag race... but for an extra bit of fun, an E92 BMW M3 turned up to join in!
The current Audi RS5 is about to go out of production and we realised we’d never drag raced it against the current BMW M4. So we brought them both to a drag strip to put them head to head, but then an E92 M3 turned up and wanted a piece of the action, so we've got the makings of an exciting three-way drag race.
Technically brilliant and capable with a 444bhp 4.2-litre V8 engine powering all four wheels, is the Audi RS5. It’s got 430Nm of torque between 4000 and 6000rpm, but it will rev all the way to 8250rpm.
But, parked up next to the BMW M4 it looks a little bland. The RS5 might have more power than the 425bhp Beemer but with 550Nm of torque available at lower revs, it could be the drag race king.
And, finally, the E92 M3. The last naturally aspirated M3 which BMW fans hold very dear to their hearts. A future classic, it was doubtful we’d see it winning any races with 414bhp. Plus, we’re pretty sure that colour isn’t BMW approved…
On a wet day like we had, what you really want is an RS5. The extra torque in the M4 means its wheels spin off the line while the Audi with four-wheel-drive has no problem, completing the run in just under 13 seconds. The M3 has a smoother start than the M4 but it still can’t beat it to the finish, with the newer model finishing in 14.03 seconds and the older doing 14.25.
