Audi RS6 vs Mercedes E63 AMG video review
We review the Audi RS6 Avant against the Mercedes E63 AMG in our video
The Mercedes E63 AMG and the Audi RS6 Avant are two estates that combine explosive performance with genuine practicality. But which is the best to drive? To find out, we put them to the test on the road and on track to deliver the ultimate verdict on how these two fierce rivals measure up.
On paper, not much separates the two contenders. The Mercedes features a 5.5-litre BiTurbo V8 that produces 549bhp and puts 719Nm of torque through the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic gearbox. The four-wheel drive RS6, on the other hand, has a smaller capacity 4.0-litre BiTurbo V8. But Audi has managed to squeeze an incredible 553bhp from it.
The RS6's extra power should give it the edge in terms of straight-line performance. According to Audi, it'll sprint from 0-62mph in a blisteringly quick 3.9 seconds, making the Merc's time of 4.3 seconds seem almost pedestrian by comparison. The RS6 Avant's four-wheel drive system should also ensure it can put all that power to tarmac in any conditions.
But the Mercedes features adaptive damping with a range of settings to let you tailor the car's ride and handling to suit whatever road your driving on.
As you'd expect from premium brands like Mercedes and Audi, both cars feature top quality interiors that feel genuinely luxurious. And, with enormous boots and spacious rear seats, both are more than practical enough to be used day-to-day, despite their supercar-level pace.
Not much separates the two rivals on price, either. The E63 AMG estate starts from £75,000 compared to £77,000 for the RS6 Avant.
So which is the better car? You'll have to watch our video to find out ...
