530e hybrid joins new BMW 5 Series range: price and specs announced
BMW reveals 530e iPerformance plug-in will cost from £43,985 and is available to order from January
BMW has announced price and spec details for its most efficient 5 Series yet. The 2017 530e iPerformance plug-in hybrid starts at £43,985, and customers can order theirs from the middle of January 2017.
The 530e uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 181bhp and 320Nm of torque. It's also mated to an electric motor with an output of 94bhp and 250Nm of torque, and both power the rear wheels. A combined balanced system output of 248bhp and 420Nm of torque means it can sprint from 0-62mph in 6.2 seconds.

Despite that performance, BMW claims a combined economy figure for the 530e of 141mpg and CO2 emissions of just 46g/km. The Mercedes E-Class rival offers up to 29 miles of electric-only range thanks to a lithium-ion battery pack, and can travel at a maximum EV-only speed of 87mph.
The 530e features a new 'eDrive' mode in the driver control settings, allowing the driver to decide how much charge to use/retain or let the system decide for itself. Other visible revisions to the cabin include illuminated 'eDrive' sills and a redesigned instrument cluster, while the exterior features blue detailing in the grille and eDrive badging.
