New 600bhp+ BMW M8 spied in convertible form
M Division's upcoming range-topper will come in both coupe and convertible formats, according to these spy shots
BMW is developing a hot M8 version of the reborn 8 Series coupe, and these fresh spy shots reveal that a drop top convertible version is also poised to break cover when the new M8 is presented towards the end of next year.
The reintroduction of the 8 Series name to BMW’s range will see the firm field a genuine Mercedes S-Class coupe rival, with a high-performance M8 version to serve as a flagship for the M brand.
We’ve already spied the M8 in coupe form undergoing assessment at the Nurburgring, and these new pictures – folding fabric roof aside – reveal little different about the finished car’s styling. A low front apron riddled with air vents at the front-end, plus four exhaust exits at the rear, hint at the car’s performance credentials though.

The M8 will utilise the same engine and drivetrain found in the new M5, which was revealed by BMW ahead of its full debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.
As such, a twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 will sit under the bonnet, producing at least 592bhp. The figure in the M8 could rise above 600bhp though, with power sent to all four wheels through a heavily rear-biased xDrive all-wheel-drive system.
