AC Schnitzer has got its hands on the BMW i8!

Tuning outfit AC Schnitzer reveals upgrade pack for i8 supercar, with aero bodykit and suspension tweaks

The BMW i8 supercar is considered by many the pinnacle of sports car innovation, but AC Schnitzer obviously thinks there's room for improvement. The legendary German tuner has released an upgrade kit for the 357bhp hybrid, which includes aerodynamic body alterations and lowered suspension.

The exterior tweaks are the most noticeable part of the package. The i8's futuristic styling now benefits (depending on your point of view) from a carbon-fibre bodykit including a large front spoiler, a revised bumper design and neat new side skirts. A fairly unmissable rear spoiler rounds off the body additions.

New wheels come in the form of 'Schnitzer AC1' 21-inch forged five-spoke items. Far from mere styling trinkets, their lightweight design reduces unsprung weight over the standard i8's rims by 4.4kg. The wider tyre profile (245/35 on the front, 285/30 on the rear) should also serve to improve overall grip.

Inside, the alterations only go as far as a new drilled aluminium pedal set and velour floor mats. The revolutionary hybrid powertrain also remains untouched by Schnitzer, as the firm consider it a pinnacle of powertrain engineering.

There's no word so far on how much the complete upgrade package will cost i8 owners. Schnitzer will let customers pick and choose which items they want, but with the expense of carbon-fibre as a material we can expect it to cost anything towards £10,000.
