BMW X2 M Mesh Edition on sale now priced from £34,510

The BMW X2 M Mesh Edition features unique decals and upholstery, as well as – you guessed it – a mesh radiator grille

The new BMW X2 M Mesh Edition is available to order in the UK now, with prices starting from £34,510. The special edition SUV is based on the range-topping X2 M Sport X variant, but features a host of styling tweaks and a retrimmed interior. First deliveries are expected to arrive in March this year.

Cosmetic revisions over the standard BMW X2 include a new mesh radiator grille, black window surrounds, black chrome exhaust tips and a set of 19-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels – although a set of 20-inch alloys can be specced as an optional extra. Buyers also get “X2” branded puddle lighting and a pair of gloss black door mirror surrounds.

The X2 M Mesh Edition’s bodywork is painted in Brooklyn Grey metallic, while the cladding on the crossover’s side skirts, doors and wheel arches is finished in a unique Frozen Black Brown metallic paint. The fins on BMW’s aerodynamic alloy wheels are also finished in gloss black paint. UK buyers won’t be offered BMW’s lairy orange decal package seen in the images.

Inside, buyers get an M-Sport branded leather steering wheel, some aluminium trim for the dashboard, unique treadplates and a fresh set of floor mats, with orange piping. BMW has also retrimmed the X2’s sports seats in black leather upholstery and contrasting grey stitching.

There’s a few optional extras to choose from, too, such as adaptive LED headlights, a panoramic glass sunroof and a wireless smartphone charging pad. Buyers can also have a larger 5.7-inch screen for the gauge cluster, along with a head-up display and either an 8.8-inch or 10.25-inch infotainment system.

The Mesh Edition can be specced with all of the standard X2’s engines, apart from the 302bhp 2.0-litre unit fitted to the X2 M35i flagship. That means buyers can choose from two petrol engines, three diesel engines and a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

The petrol range opens with BMW’s sDrive18i unit – a turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder unit with 134bhp. Above that sits the sDrive20i, which features a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, with an output of 176bhp and 280Nm of torque. The latter option can also be optionally specced with four-wheel-drive.

The diesel range is based around a sole turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit in varying states of tune. The entry-level sDrive18d produces 148bhp and 350Nm of torque; the sDrive20d has 187bhp and 400Nm of torque and the range-topping xDrive25d generates 228bhp and 450Nm of torque.

At the top of the line-up is the xDrive25e plug-in hybrid. The system features a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, a compact electric motor and a 10kWh battery pack, for a combined output of 217bhp with 385Nm of torque. With a full charge, BMW says the powertrain will deliver up to 148.6mpg and cover around 35 miles on electric power alone.
