The new Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 coupe-saloon also made an appearance. Like the firm's new performance A-Class saloon, it's based on similar underpinnings to the AMG A 35, coming fitted with a 302bhp four-cylinder petrol engine, all-wheel-drive and a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

The Stuttgart-based manufacturer gave its GLC Coupe a mid-life facelift, too, pulling its styling, engines and technology from the recently-revised GLC SUV. Major updates include a new range of petrol-hybrid powertrains and the addition of Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment system. Due to reach the UK later this year, it will act as the sole rival to the BMW X4.

Accompanying the GLC Coupe was the new Mercedes-AMG GLC 63. The firm’s latest performance SUV comes with a 503bhp 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine in its fastest guise, offering a 0–62mph time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 174mph. It recently claimed the title of the fastest production SUV to lap the Nurburgring, with a time of 7:49.369 minutes, beating the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio’s time by more than two seconds.
