It’s that time of the year when we sit down and debate the year that was – and 2014 was a vintage year for cars.  We know our favourite cars of 2014, but what were your highlights? What are your Christmas crackers and which have been your stuffed turkeys?

Quickest away from the lights is regular Auto Express reader and car fan Eddy Parsons, aged 11, from Hertfordshire. He’s compiled a brilliant list of his must-have cars, plus a few special awards including most annoying and ugliest car of the year!

Shortlist - Mini Hatch, VW Polo, Toyota Yaris

Winner - the Mini Hatch "remains at the top with classic looks and modern tech - the Cooper is outstanding"

Small family car

Shortlist - Audi A3, VW Golf, Peugeot 308

Winner - the Audi A3 - "belies its age with stylish looks and a luxurious cabin"

Family car

Shortlist - Ford Mondeo, VW Passat, Mazda 6
