Volkswagen recall: 2.5 million cars affected
Worldwide recall could affect tens of thousand of UK models with power fault
Volkswagen could recall up to 60,000 vehicles in the UK because of a fault that could lead to a loss of power or lights, and an issue with gearbox oil.
The VW Tiguan is the model most affected, expected to be around 800,000, with cars built between 2008 and mid-2011 fitted with a faulty fuse that could lead to a partial loss of lighting if it trips.
Other models affected include the Volkswagen Amarok, which may have leaking engine fuel lines. While a further 1.6 million models could be affected by an issue of synthetic oil in their gear boxes
The manufacturer told us that numbers and models affected in the UK had not yet been confirmed, but that it was meeting VOSA in order to finalise the details.
However, reports claim that models affected in the UK with the gearbox oil issue could include selected Golf, Polo, Passat and Scirocco models fitted with the manufacturers seven-speed DSG gearbox.
Until the cars in the UK are confirmed, owners can visit their local dealer or call VW on 0800 083 3914 for more information.
Despite the large number of cars, many of the problems are minor, and in fact recalls are a common occurrence. To find out more: Everything you need to know about car recalls.
