Parking fines issued by private firms rise 24%
Private parking companies issued 8.4 million parking tickets in the 2019-20 financial year, up from 6.8 million in 2018-19
Private parking firms issued 24 per cent more tickets to British drivers in the 2019-20 financial year than they did in 2018-19.
The DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) handed out 8.4 million sets of vehicle keeper data to private parking companies in 2019-20 - at a cost of £2.50 per record - compared with 6.8 million in the previous financial year. In the vast majority of cases, this data will have been used to contact motorists accused of breaching parking rules
• DVLA mishandles confidential data of over 2,000 drivers
The data, which came from the DVLA and was analysed by the RAC Foundation, suggests a private parking ticket is being handed out at a rate of one every four seconds.
