New York Motor Show 2013 preview
We preview the must-see cars expected at the New York Motor Show
The New York Motor Show comes around pretty quickly. After all, the automotive world hasn't exactly had time to settle down since the new VW Golf GTI and Ferrari LaFerrari were introduced to the world at the Geneva Motor Show just weeks ago.
And while New York might not quite have the cache of new metal that we saw on Geneva, America's longest-running motor show certainly deserves your attention.
This year's line-up includes more than a couple of noteworthy world debuts, but the most exciting newcomer is the new 2013 Range Rover Sport. We've already seen the car undisguised in a set of spy shots but we're waiting for the exciting details that will confirm Land Rover has got another winner on its hands.
Then there's the Mercedes CLA 45 AMG, the stylish saloon brother to the bonkers-fast A45 AMG, which was star of the Mercedes stand at Geneva. It's got the same 355bhp 2.0-litre turbo and four-wheel drive, and can launch from 0-62mph in just 4.6 seconds.
The controversial Jeep Cherokee is set to be a big draw, too, with may show-goers eager to see what it looks like in the flesh. After all, it's styling has already prompted a fair amount of discussion. What's certain is that it will be one of the most capable off-road cars we've ever seen.
Jaguar will be showcasing how it does performance, with a new XJR variant of its flagship limousine. Featuring the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 from the XKR-S, we're expecting 0-62mph in around 4.5 seconds and a price of well over £100,000.
Let's not forget New York is an American show, though, so home-grown models are plentiful. Cadillac will be unveiling its new BMW 5 Series rival, the CTS, which we're likely to see on UK roads in a couple of years' time, and Chevrolet will be pulling the wraps off a facelifted version of its Camaro muscle car.
There are still plenty of New York debuts that we don't know about, though, including a performance concept car courtesy of Subaru that could well preview the next-generation Impreza WRX.
