Throughout its eight-year production run, Nissan's Almera has never really set our pulses racing, but this special edition has caught our eye.
The Almera Pulse is a real bargain. Yes, the design is starting to show its age inside and out, but with an excellent diesel engine and smooth six-speed gearbox, the Nissan now makes much more sense. If you want an oil-burning family hatchback, you'll find it difficult to get better value for your money.

Put simply, it's a practical hatchback with a thumping diesel engine from the X-Trail off-roader and a six-speed gearbox - all for less than the price of rivals' superminis.
So we got our hands on the Pulse special edition to see how Nissan has managed to come up with one of the best value oil-burners on the market.
