BMW Alpina B6 GT3

Alpina hits the track with this storming BMW 6-Series-based special

Unless you're a serious racing enthusiast, you wouldn't normally associate the Alpina brand with the track. But the company has a long motorsport history and, although it's more famous for producing tuned roadgoing BMWs, it's about to reignite its past with this B6 GT3 race car.

Based on the roadgoing Alpina B6 S, the GT3 version gets a supercharged4.4-litre V8 with a mighty 523bhp and 725Nm of torque. Together with a totally revised suspension set-up and stripped out cabin, the B6 GT3 should be more than a match for rivals such as the Ferrari F430 Scuderia and Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. If you've got the money – we'd estimate upwards of £250,000 – Alpina will even sell you a race-ready version.
