Range-topping Citroen C5 Aircross Black Edition added to SUV line-up

New top-spec Black Edition trim added to Citroen C5 Aircross Hybrid range, mixing extra kit with PHEV efficiency

A new top-spec Citroen C5 Aircross Black Edition trim level has been revealed by the French brand. Priced from £36,850, deliveries are set to begin in October this year.

Citroen says the new Black Edition reflects demand for the ‘Shine Plus’ trim on which the Black Edition is based, adding extra equipment and a unique look at the top of the C5 Aircross Hybrid line-up. The new Black Edition model is only available with Citroen’s plug-in hybrid powertrain.

This new top-spec trim level comes with distinctive styling details, including a Perla Nera Black roof and door mirrors, as well as 19-inch black ‘Art’ alloy wheels. On the inside, the C5 gets an opening panoramic sunroof with sunblind, as well as ‘Urban Black’ Alcantara-trimmed Citroen Advanced Comfort seats fitted as standard.

Other equipment includes an eight-inch touchscreen with Citroen connect Nav, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the interior also benefits from three independent sliding, reclining and folding rear seats that are all the same width to boost practicality. The C5 Aircross also offers between 460 and 600 litres of luggage space.

Citroen has also fitted features on the C5 Aircross Black Edition to improve usability, including a powered tailgate with hands free access, LED headlights, front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, power-fold doors mirrors and keyless entry and start. The French firm’s Safety Plus pack is also fitted as standard, which includes blind-spot monitoring, advanced Active Safety Brake with video and radar assistance.

Citroen’s Highway Driver Assist, which regulates vehicle speed and proximity to the vehicle in front, in-lane vehicle positioning assistance and Advanced Comfort Suspension are all included, too.

Black Edition trim comes fitted with Citroen’s plug-in hybrid powertrain only, which means the firm’s PureTech 180 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine is mated to an electric motor for a total of 222bhp. Both of send power to the front wheels through Citroen’s hybrid-specific e-EAT8 eight-speed automatic gearbox.

In electric mode, thanks to its 13.2kWh battery the C5 Aircross Black Edition is capable of up to 34 miles on a single charge. The Aircross SUV hybrid also features a 7.4kW on-board charger capable, which gives a recharge time of less than two hours from a home wallbox.
