There's £75,000 to spend and a three-car garage to fill. We dip into the Auto Express used car classifieds to see what we can assemble...

Take a look around a private school or Waitrose car park and you’re likely to see a plethora of high-end SUVs. Porsche’s Cayenne is one of the most common, despite having a slightly eye-watering entry price of £76,000.
That got us thinking about the sort of three-car garage you could construct with the same budget – one that could cover all the bases from family hauling, city dwelling and a bit of sheer joy.
Volkswagen Touareg £24,995

If you insist on an SUV being required for your day-to-day human haulage, we suspect a Volkswagen Touareg might not always be at the top of your list. But the reality is that this relatively understated SUV is pretty much the same car as the Cayenne under the skin, only it offers even more advanced infotainment technology and a more efficient diesel engine.
The one we found costs just £24,995, and despite being a 2018 model actually has an even more sophisticated infotainment package in the form of VW’s Innovision cockpit. It’s powered by a 3.0-litre TDI engine, which is both Euro 6 and ULEZ compliant, it’ll average around 35mpg and it will still cover the 0-62mph sprint in around 6.5 seconds.
If you have just missed out on this Volkswagen Touareg, then take a look at these family SUVs that are available for under £25,000 through Auto Express.
Mazda MX-30 £10,990

With family duties out of the way, the next option should probably be an occasional-use second car for nipping into town or running errands with zero emissions. The Mazda MX-30 is part of a glut of fairly pricey EVs (when new) that struggled to get more than around 150 miles from a charge. However, while this was seen as fairly poor for a near-£40k SUV, as a 10-grand runaround it represents colossal value.
It’s not even half bad to drive, thanks to communicative steering, tight body control and a responsive engine. And while it’s not especially practical for something that pretends to be a crossover, its rear-hinged back doors and attractive cabin make this feel infinitely more special than a Renault Zoe or Nissan Leaf, which cost much the same second-hand and have a similar range.
If this Mazda MX-30 has already been snatched up, take a look at these budget SUVs available through Auto Express.
Alpine A110 £42,848

If you’ve done the maths, you’ll notice there’s still a pretty chunky amount left in the kitty to spend on a toy. Many two-seater sports cars can be bought for between £35-45k, but we think the Alpine A110 offers the best combination of exquisite handling and desirability.
There’s no shame in going for an entry-level model, either, because A110s are at their best in the lower trims. We found this model at a touch under £43k in white and with not too many miles on the clock. Even better, the Alpine’s relatively simple underpinnings should keep maintenance low, while fuel economy is also surprisingly good.
