New 2015 Ford Galaxy kicks off at £26,445 and gets 4WD

Ford reveals full prices and specs of its new Galaxy large MPV, available to order now with an all-wheel drive option.

Ford's entire MPV range has received a revamp for 2015, with the extensively updated Galaxy topping the range off. The flagship people mover is on sale now at Ford dealers, and prices start at £26,445. Available to order now, the SEAT Alhambra rival is expected to be delivered to customers in the summer.

Although that's £800 more than the outgoing Ford Galaxy model, you do get new suspension settings, styling, interior and tech to make that extra outlay count. it also gets you a new 158bhp 1.5-litre EcoBoost turbo petrol engine in base Zetec trim.

More interesting is that this is the first Galaxy to get intelligent all-wheel drive as an option. The same system as its recently launched 2015 Ford S-MAX sibling, it is always in operation and, at low speeds, can shuffle power to improve traction on icy or slippery roads. At speeds above 18mph, the all-wheel drive system aims to improve the driving experience by shuffling power to the rear wheels. It also allows buyers to tow up to two tonnes.

Zetec models come as standard with front and rear parking sensors, Ford's sport seats, electric folding mirrors, dual-zone climate control and keyless go. You'll have to spec up to Titanium trim, from £28,595, for satnav and a DAB radio but you also get cruise control, auto wipers, privacy glass and chrome exterior trim.

Top-spec Titanium X trim adds a panoramic glass sunroof, leather seats, a 10-way electrically-adjustable drivers seat, heated front chairs, active park assist and a power tailgate. It starts at £33,096 with the 148bhp diesel engine.

There's also a 237bhp 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine available only with a six-speed auto, and four 2.0- TDCI diesels in various states of tune, from 118bhp to 207bhp. The AWD Titanium X Galaxy with the 178bhp diesel and the Powershift auto kicks off at £36,145.

The Ford Galaxy will also borrow the latest comfort features and tech options, such as electrically-raising third-row seats, massaging front chairs, adaptive steering and a front split-view camera. Rear passengers also get 10mm more headroom than the last Galaxy, which itself could hardly be described as cramped.
