When pushed hard on bumpy roads, the Peugeot can become ragged and start to lurch. The front-wheel-drive coupé isn’t as rewarding as its German rivals – although cossetting suspension ensures it is a superb cruiser.
The 407 comes with loads of kit as standard, including sat-nav and electric leather seats. But the finish isn’t up to the same standard here, and the view out is compromised by intrusive A-pillars and small door mirrors.

Although the long front overhang appears ungainly, it does serve a purpose. It improves pedestrian impact safety, and in doing so helped the 407 Coupé gain a five-star Euro NCAP crash test rating.
