New 2021 Genesis G70 saloon: UK prices revealed

Genesis G70 compact executive saloon to undercut premium European rivals, priced from £33,850

Genesis has named prices for its new BMW 3 Series, Alfa Romeo Giulia and Audi A4 rival - the G70 - which will go on sale in the UK on the 1 September priced from £33,850.

The Hyundai-owned premium brand’s G70 saloon shares many of its mechanical components with the Kia Stinger, which means UK buyers will have access to the same range of engines as found in the Kia – albeit with slightly more power.

The entry-level model is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol unit with 251bhp and 353Nm of torque. The G70’s 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel offers an output of 199bhp and 440Nm of torque; this engine is priced from £35,860. Drive is sent to the rear wheels in both models, with an eight-speed automatic transmission the default gearbox.

Though unconfirmed for the UK market for now, there’s also a 3.3-litre V6 petrol option that develops 368bhp and 510Nm of torque. The latter sends drive to all four wheels and has a built-in drift mode, similar to that fitted to the new BMW M3.

Genesis has sold the G70 since 2017, but the model about to be introduced to the UK market is the facelifted variant with new slimline LED headlights, an updated front bumper, fresh alloy wheels designs and an updated rear diffuser with twin exhaust tips.

Inside, there’s a new wireless smartphone charger, a 360-degree camera and a 10.25-inch infotainment system mounted in the centre of the dashboard, which offers support for over-the-air updates. Genesis has also swapped the Kia Stinger’s standard window glass for sound-insulating replacement panes.

The line-up starts with Premium Line trim, while two further trims are offered in the form of Luxury Line - priced from £38,510 with the petrol option - and the Sport Line car, which kicks off from £40,030.

In a reverse to the most affordable Premium Line model, both the Luxury Line and Sport Line trim levels open with the diesel, with the 2.0-litre petrol option priced as the higher of the two powertrains.

The G70 is the smaller of the brand’s two saloons available in the UK, slotting beneath the brand’s G80 model, which rivals the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E-Class saloons.

When it goes on sale in the UK on 1 September, it will be one of four Genesis offerings on the UK market, lining up with the G80, the GV70 SUV it shares its platform with, and the large GV80 SUV. A G70 Shooting Brake estate version will join the line-up in the near future too.

The brand will introduce an electric saloon soon in the form of the G80 Electrified, while an electric SUV similar in size to the G70 is also coming. Called the GV60, it’s the brand’s first purpose-made electric car, using the Hyundai Group’s E-GMP platform.
