Refreshed Honda Civic revealed for 2020

The Japanese manufacturer will outfit its Volkswagen Golf rival with a host of cosmetic upgrades and additional standard equipment for 2020

Honda has refreshed the Civic range for 2020, with a range of exterior styling revisions, a mildly reworked interior and additional standard equipment. The updated Honda Civic will be available to order from December, with first deliveries arriving in January.

Exterior styling revisions stretch to a redesigned front fog lamp surround, reworked LED daytime running lights and new LED headlamps on all models. New 16-inch alloy wheels are fitted as standard to the entry-level model, while fresh 17-inch “Shark Grey” alloys are available on mid-range and top-spec variants.

Inside, the updated Honda Civic features new, textured dashboard panels and door cards, while range-topping models receive an eight-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat. In response to customer demand, Honda has also fitted physical buttons for the Civic’s infotainment system and climate control panel.

The updated Honda Civic will retain the same engine range as the current car. The entry-level powertrain is a turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder unit, developing 124bhp and 200Nm of torque. It can be paired with either a CVT or a six-speed manual transmission and offers emissions figures of 107g/km of CO2 and a claimed WLTP fuel economy of 49.6mpg.

Honda’s turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine will continue to be available on the Civic’s mid-spec Sport and Sport Plus trim-levels. It produces 180bhp and 240Nm of torque and, when paired with Honda’s six-speed manual transmission, returns emissions figures of 128g/km of CO2 and a claimed WLTP fuel economy of 46.3mpg.

The Civic’s sole 1.6-litre four-cylinder diesel engine will also remain, despite the recent market favour towards petrol engines. It produces 118bhp and 300Nm of torque – and it’s available with either a six-speed manual or nine-speed automatic gearbox. Emissions figures are a claimed 90g/km of CO2, while fuel economy stands at 62.8mpg.
