Honda Civic Type R taken to new extremes by Mugen
Honda's new Civic Type R gets racy Mugen bodykit for Tokyo Auto Salon. Engine upgrades also likely.
The striking new Honda Civic Type R isn't for the shy and retiring type in standard form, but Japanese tuner Mugen clearly thinks it needs to go a little bit more extreme. The Honda Civic Type R Mugen concept will debut at this year's Tokyo Auto Salon on Jan 15th.
As you can see, the Civic's already lairy wings and skirts have been swapped for even more imposing items. Looking quite like a BTCC touring car, the most purposeful Civic yet gets front and side skirts, a beefier front bumper and a lightweight rear wing.

The quad exhausts have been replaced by a large single pipe to help it fit in with the trend on Japan's car modification scene. New lighweight wheels and Mugen badging complete the look. We haven't seen a picture of the inside, but through the window you can see racy Mugen sports seats take pride of place in the cabin.
Mugen has a long and illustrious history of tuning up Honda engines to their maximum potential, and we expect this Civic Type R will be no different. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but how much more powerful than the 306bhp 2.0-litre turbo get?
