Hyundai ix20 2015 facelift spotted
Hyundai's mini MPV set to get updated styling, cabin and engines for September release
Hyundai's latest model to receive a mid-life nip and tuck will be the ix20 mini MPV, as our spyshots show. Caught winter testing in heavy body cladding, the revised ix20 looks set to get extensive exterior updates, interior changes and a new range of engines.
We've already seen a raft of updates added to the i30 and i40 ranges, alongside an all-new i20, the forthcoming i20 Coupe and the revamped ix35 SUV, so Hyundai has been busy of late. As one of the older models in the firm's range, the ix20 will now get some much-needed revisions to bring it in line with its updated sister car, the Kia Venga.
The extent of the disguise on this prototype hints that this will be slightly more than a mild headlight facelift. The overall proportions appear to remain the same, but there will be a new hexagonal grille, like the one we've seen on the i30, as well as LED daytime running lights and a more sculpted bonnet.
The Hyundai ix20 interior is likely to get inspiration from the new i20, with better materials all-round, an updated centre console and new dials. Equipment such as a lane-departure warning system and a smartphone dock will make their way into the ix20, too.
In terms of engines, we expect the Nissan Note rival to get the new 1.4 'Kappa' petrol engine from Hyundai's smaller new models, as well as the revised 1.4 and 1.6 CRDI diesels. As with other facelifts, the Korean firm is likely to tweak the ix20's suspension and add extra soundproofing for better refinement.
