All-new Kia XCeed crossover: UK prices announced

Kia has announced UK pricing information for its new XCeed crossover, which starts from £20,795

Kia has announced pricing information for the all-new XCeed crossover. Marketed as a cut-price alternative to the Mercedes GLA, it’s available to order now with prices starting from £20,795. First deliveries are expected to arrive by September this year.

The XCeed is the fourth member of the Kia Ceed family, joining the existing five-door hatchback, Sportswagon estate and Proceed shooting brake. Designed to sit between the Stonic and Sportage in the range, the XCeed is described by Kia as a crossover utility vehicle (CUV).

The only parts carried over from the Ceed hatch are the front doors; every other body panel has been redesigned. Kia has added a new LED headlamps and a more prominent grille with lower air intakes to give the XCeed a unique look within the range. It’s the same at the rear where new tail lamps and bolder body panels mark it out.

The wheelbase remains the same as the hatch at 2,650mm, but it is 85mm longer overall. The XCeed’s ride height and roofline have also been raised by 42mm and 43mm respectively. The boot is 31 litres larger than the on in the Ceed hatch at 426 litres – that’s slightly down on space over a Mercedes GLA and Volkswagen T-Roc. Dropping the rear bench, which splits 40:20:40, increases total luggage space to 1,378 litres.

Three trim levels will be offered from launch. The entry-level XCeed ‘2’ features 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, silver roof rails and front fog lamps. Inside, the base-model gets a leather trimmed steering wheel, cloth upholstery, front and rear electric windows and an eight-inch infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The XCeed ‘3’ is priced from £23,295 and comes equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels, a 10.25-inch infotainment system, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, part-leather upholstery and an electric handbrake.

Range-topping XCeed ‘First Edition’ models start from £28,095. Additional equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, an electrically operated driver’s seat with memory function, a premium JBL sound system and a 12.3-inch digital binnacle. A suite of safety technology is also provided, including forward collision avoidance assist, smart cruise control and lane keeping assist.

Engine and gearbox options

Engine options will initially be made up of two petrol and two diesel units, while a plug-in hybrid and 48-volt mild hybrid powertrains will follow in 2020. The petrol range consists of a 118bhp 1.0-litre three-cylinder T-GDi and a 138bhp 1.4-litre four-cylinder T-GDi engine.

The two diesel options are 114bhp or 135bhp versions of the Kia’s four-cylinder 1.6-litre engine found elsewhere in the Ceed range. All engines, with the exception of the 1.0-litre T-GDi, can be paired with a choice of six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmissions, with the latter commanding a £1,100 premium over the former.

The XCeed also features a unique chassis setup; Kia has introduced hydraulic rebound bump stops to the front axle of every model. The idea being the hydraulic units help better absorb compressions, along with the softer spring and damper setup, to improve the car’s ride quality.
